Books are here!

Well well well, what have we here. I left the apartment yesterday, walked downstairs and saw 50 copies of my book waiting for me all boxed up.

And incredibly, the book despite being 200+ pages longer, best I can tell, is the same exact dimensions as the Mixtape.

In other news, I wanted to share some great news. As you maybe knew, I spent a year at Harvard in the Government dept in the faculty of arts and sciences. I taught two undergrad stats classes and a PhD course on probability and regression, both in Gov or what outside of Harvard is often referred to as political science. It was a great experience for which I’ll be grateful for the rest of my life.

But now I’m doing it one more year — only at the other Government school at Harvard. Harvard Kennedy School! I’ll be teaching three classes again in the spring — one semester long econometrics course in the public policy PhD program, and two other econometrics classes — both half semester — in a different PhD program for international development.

I went down yesterday to pick up my key and check out my office. Check out how official it is!

It’s a great opportunity. Will Dobbie had taught these classes, but he has left for Princeton. Before Will, Alberto Abadie taught it. So I’m just stunned and excited that I get to step into such a historic course! I’ve been asked to teach causal inference for the courses too! So it’s really in my wheelhouse.

Walking into the building and looking around was also amazing. It’s so cosmopolitan with students and distinguished faculty from all over the world. The floor plan of its central entrance is one of those things designed to create maximum interactions — lots of places to study, interact with each other, and an absolutely delicious cafeteria too.

Plus it has this beautiful courtyard entrance. It’s centrally located in Cambridge, near a lot of shops, restaurants, coffee shops. Though it isn’t by the Square, it’s at its own place near it, and just beautiful.

So, I will be at Baylor this fall teaching history of economic thought to the undergrads. I was unsuccessful at getting either daughter of mine to take the course, but that’s okay — you can’t win them all. I’ll be coming back up here to Boston frequently to get to spend time on campus, in my office, doing my research in my new office, more or less staying in my apartment in Back Bay on the weekends, and catching a few home Patriots games.

In the meantime, I should have a new revised version of my study on the behavior of autonomous AI agents for empirical research which I’m excited about. And that’s about it! But that’s the latest — a new book in print, a new office, and another year in Boston. Really excited about it.
