Yesterday we heard the strong case that Charles Cobb should’ve won, but today we get arguably a somewhat less dark horse candidate, none other than the father of game theory itself, Mr John von Neumann! His book with Oskar Morganstern made a major impact, and without them, who knows if the young genius, John Nash, would’ve worked out his equilibrium solution. It’s hard to let Stockholm off the hook when they fail to recognize everyone who deserves mention, but technically von Neumann died a decade give or take before the prize and since the Prize cannot be given posthumously, he didn’t get it.
