One of the things that has given me great joy through hard times of the last six years has been trying to create authentic community within economics. I came to value the process of creating community, in fact, more than the act of consuming it. I came to love the loving more than the being loved if that makes sense. The gift giving, more than the opening of gifts. It came from a personal place and was part of my own story of trying to change, heal, and solve problems in my own life.

I personally believe that at some level, all of us do desire to be known. Not the same degree, and not in the same way, but I am not of the opinion that it is necessarily a good thing that a human feels alone. In an old Jewish holy story, God confronts a man who murdered his brother and asks him where the brother is, to which he answers “I don’t know. Am I my brothers keeper?” I’ve always thought that was an interesting question. God does not answer that question, the answer seems so clearly yes. Yes, you…
