How I use AI to care for myself

Today’s post is personal. And keeping me with my ongoing rule for picking which ones I will and will not paywall, I had Cosmos flip a coin — best two out of three. Today came up three heads in a row, which was honestly kind of a relief, so it’s paywalled.

Pain, tragedy, and grief aren’t everyday occurrences, but their cumulative probability rises with age. The only real way to avoid them is to die young.

Over the past ten years, my life has, objectively speaking, been a dumpster fire. Mental health struggles in my family turned minor parenting disagreements into tectonic shifts, breaking apart the foundation of my marriage. Divorce, heartbreak, and a relentless barrage of life’s knuckleballs followed, forcing me to stand at the plate and swing again and again. That’s one hand.
