On September 27 and 28th, Peter Hull (Assistant Professor at Brown in Economics) will be teaching a workshop on instrumental variables at Mixtape Sessions. It’s going to cover the mechanics of two stage least square and its justifications, cover problems and interpretations created by heterogenous treatment effects, and material not often taught when first learning IV like marginal treatment effects and the leniency design. But more seriously, I think this is a great workshop. Yes, Peter is a fantastic instructor, economist and person. But instrumental variables is also an important topic. It is important because of what it can accomplish, but it’s also not magic. If the situations for it are in fact not advise…
