"Doing Applied Research" with Mark Anderson and Dan Rees
A common phrase you hear about these days in academia is the “hidden curriculum”. There’s even a podcast of the same name devoted to helping students and assistant professors learn more about the things they need to know to have academic careers that isn’t taught in econometrics. As the knowledge is folklore passed down through social networks, it is really not true that everyone hits the ground running with the same amount of that human capital. So I asked Mark and Dan, two highly successful and productive applied macroeconomists, to teach a short two day workshop at Mixtape Sessions on the topic of “doing applied research”. The idea was what’s everything you need to know that is not econometrics or economic theory, but which is nonetheless critical to successful publishing careers?
