My new weekly substack schedule
After tinkering around with various ideas for the last year or so, I think I finally in the last month figured out what I want this substack to be. And here’s what I’m thinking it’ll be.
Sundays (not counting this one): No posts. I’m going to try to get back to taking Sundays off period. So ordinarily no posts but I woke up early and didn’t want to wake the girls by making coffee so I’m in bed snuggled with my new kitten, Clara, and decided to just go ahead and say no posts on Sundays
Mondays: The Mixtape Mailbag (paying subscribers only). On Mondays, I’ll do my Q&A for anything and everything that someone asks. I am thinking actually of recruiting a couple of friends to without peeking at my answer offer their own response. Readers should write in and ask anything they want and I’ll try to answer it. Causal inference, econometrics, you name it. Tomorrow Tymon and Bacon help me out a little with the mailbag too.
Tuesdays: new episodes of the Mixtape with Scott. Can you believe I now have close to 80 interviews? I can’t. The story of causal inference at Princeton industrial relations section isn’t closed, but it’s definitely a story I better understand. This week we have an interview with Tymon Słoncyzńki and next week Jinhun Hahn at UCLA. I also have in the can interviews with Marianne Wanamaker and Chris Pinto which would probably wrap up the year. Next year, season 3, my goal is to interview the students of Imbens, Card and Angrist. That’ll be three new series that I do. My thesis continues to be that causal inference in the Rubin worldview spread through students and jobs so I’m going to just keep at that. But I’ll continue in the old Becker and tech series too. And occasionally, I will try to interview people of those main equilibrium tracks. Podcasts are free.
Wednesday: free explainer content. Not sure exactly what I’ll define as an explainer but there’ll be one day a week that’s free. I’m thinking though of continuing to make explainers follow a series as much as I can, though perhaps too I’ll just discuss any paper I am excited by at that moment. But Wednesday is hump day and it’ll be free.
Thursday: paid only. Thursdays I’ll be posting paid content. These will be mixtures of explainers about econometrics, and perhaps personal writings, though I still haven’t quite figured out how to write personal things and not over share. But I figure it’s behind the paywall so if I did overshare no one but subscribers can see it anyway. I will be maybe sharing about the progress of the book and my plans more there, but mainly I want to keep generating code, simulations, and try to break down where methodologically things are going.
Friday: either I take that day off or it’s paid only. This is the same as Thursdays. I think as I find my groove, I’ll know better how to do these but my plan is to continue making econometrics series about things. But we’ll see. This is my schedule at least. I just want to keep waking up early and write it on days when I have a lot to say, just write it out and schedule it weeks in advance. But I am hesitant to commit to it yet so for now it’s an optional day.
Saturday: closing my tabs for the week. Every Saturday I try to close all the tabs I have open in my computer or phone of things I haven’t finished reading but need to throw in the towel and just accept I’m otherwise never going to read it.
I think btw even if it’s a paid subscription only, you can still write in a Q&A letter to the mailbag and I can answer it and tag you to see it. On my side, there’s a way to do that, so feel free to write in and I’ll get you in. I know the guy!
Have a great week everyone! Below I’ll tell the story of the stalker who awoken my ptsd last week.
