One of the ideas that I repeat a lot on my podcast is the idea that people broadly use the stories of other people, call them role models, to help them navigate their own historical lives. Stories, to me, are nothing more than models, and as such, they are not technically true, but they can be nonetheless useful. We just have to be clear about what the objective function is. And so the point of the podcast, in part, is to provide “useful stories” to help all of us navigate our own historical lives by listening to living economists retell their life story.
