Saturday morning links with a lot of rambling thoughts while I should be packing for my trip to Germany
I told myself “Scott, wake up at 3am and do an explainer on that paper you saw”. Then 3am came, 4am came, 5am came, 6am came and now I’m here. I leave for Cologne, Germany in four hours, so instead I’m going to give a quick run through of a few things in my browser this week and then send pictures when I get there for a workshop. Kyle Butts and I are doing it together and it’ll be our billionth time to talk and our first time to meet.
I’ve been pretty interested in the gains in the stock market like everyone else I’m sure over the last year, but I’ve been particularly interested in the outsized performance of what they’re calling the “Magnificent 7”. These are 7 firms, all tech firms, that if you drop them from the sample cause the overall gains to fall a decent amount. Those are Tesla, Apple, Alphabet, NVIDIA, Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft. Because not everyone has probably read about it that’s reading it, I’ll just show some pictures from this NYT from January.
