Binge watched Slow Horses season 2 last night from my Airbnb in a seaside cottage just outside Rome bc it was raining. This is the first show I’ve binge watched since Ted Lasso. Best espionage I’ve seen since Bourne Identity, and may be better. British series seem very efficient — each season is six episodes. Gary Oldman at his finest. Perfectly cast and paced. Characters are great and the stakes are high. I’ll binge season 3 on the plane on the way back from Rome in a few hours. The Onion AV has you covered. I wonder if the ringer podcast has been covering it. I’ll check later.
Tobias Schnabel did his bachelors thesis, as I said yesterday, evaluating matrix completion with nuclear norm regularization against numerous common diff in diff estimators used with staggered adoption. His thesis is unusually deep for a bachelors thesis and shows a very good grasp of the method. He like me learned from simulations so he had 8 different DGPs that he ran all the robust did estimators through including MCNN. Here’s the results. MCNN sometimes does better, sometimes the same, sometimes worse.
