Final third part of my interview with Rick Strassman, MD

I sat for three hours with Rick Strassman, a psychiatrist (now emeritus professor) who while faculty at University of New Mexico’s medical school embarked on the first human trial of psychedelics after the Controlled Substance Act in the US. He studied a classic but then obscure psychedelic called DMT whose compound is found both in plants as well as endogenously in the human body. Strassman’s work was completed and articles based on the research were published in prestigious academic journals. But then he left academia, traveled to Canada, and began a new life after psychedelics. Somewhat disillusioned with the lack of support the research received, he would move into other ventures, such as writing as well as consulting with other research teams that tried to mimic what he successfully did.
