Super thrilled about this episode. In addition to being an extraordinary economist, Francine is a mensch. One of my greatest laments of having to finish my PhD work at Cornell in absentia is that I didn't get more occasion to interact with her more. Though, as luck would have it, she and her husband, Larry Khan, were sitting at a table near ours at the restaurant my wife and I went to after successfully defending my dissertation earlier that day. Talking with both of them felt like a great way to cap off our experience at Cornell.
I loved this interview, Scott. Phenominal questions--though I hope you do get to do a follow-up re: your history of causal inf questioms. Thanks for giving the profession eyes to see the many paths people have found into the profession. I learned so much I never knew before about Dr. Blau. It's funny, because as she talked about her childhood, I kept being reminded of a favorite chatacter of mine, named Francie coincidentally, in one of my all-time favorite books, /A Tree Grows in Brooklyn/.

I forgot you went there! You got such a great education! I don’t know Dr Khan but Dr Blau seems wonderful.
